A+ Tutor Training Information

A+ Training 2020-21

Do you need to complete your A+ hours? Many of our typical options for A+ hours are not available this year, and as such we have created a Canvas Course with an option for virtual career exploration/job shadowing as well as at-home tutoring.

To access the Canvas Course, sign up, and begin working on A+ hours, visit this link.  Alternatively, the Canvas Code to sign up if you're already in Canvas is K3C9B7.

Due to the extreme need for seniors to get hours completed this semester, the fall Canvas Course hours option is limited to SENIORS ONLY.  Juniors will have this as an option in the spring if we are still following the same COVID guidelines.

Status of A+ Accommodations for 2021 Seniors

The Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development understands that high schools are currently faced with difficult decisions about how to handle the fall 2020 semester amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. In response to the unexpected disruption of the spring 2020 semester due to the pandemic, MDHEWD put in place temporary accommodations to soften the impact on 2020 seniors’ eligibility for the scholarship. We also committed to continue evaluating the situation to determine if additional accommodations, or an extension of the existing accommodations, was needed.

While the type of disruption we experienced this spring is unlikely, it is clear the 2020-2021 academic year will present challenges to which we all will have to adapt. At this time, it is too early to know exactly how to best assist the 2021 seniors. Our decisions will be tailored to meet the fall 2020 and spring 2021 circumstances as they solidify. In some instances, our response will depend on the decisions of others, such as the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and ACT, that have not yet been made. However, we want to assure A+ students and our high school partners that we remain committed to doing our part to protect the eligibility of the 2021 seniors who have worked hard for this scholarship, while maintaining the integrity of the program. Once the nature of the fall 2020 semester is more clear, we will provide additional guidance.
